Kellie Pickler is reflecting on her life with her late husband Kyle Jacobs.
Six months after Jacobs died by suicide, the American Idol alum is sharing the words of wisdom the late songwriter—whom she married in 2011—instilled in her throughout their time together.
"One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don't know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still,'" Pickler told People in an interview published Aug. 17. "I have chosen to heed his advice."
Giving a nod to those who have stuck by the country singer throughout this difficult time, she added, "Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it's helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers."
As for plans to honor her husband's life? The country star shared that she will have an "intimate memorial" later this year, adding, "That is what Kyle would have wanted."
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department confirmed Jacob's death to E! News. after was found dead at his and Pickler's Tennessee home on Feb. 17. He was 49. Four months later, in May, Jacob's death was ruled a suicide by the Davidson Country Medical Examiner.
The couple, who first started dating in 2008, often mixed business and pleasure—working together on songs like "One Last Time," "The Woman I am" and "Feeling Tonight."
"Yes, it's true, I'm sleeping with my producer!" Pickler joked to People in 2015. "He is so good at what he does. I'm so excited to be in the studio again recording a new album, and working with Kyle has been amazing. He has watched me perform for years, so it was great to have a front row seat as an artist and see him in his element."
